Doing Business With The Government

What are the secrets of government procurement? How does one approach federal agencies, the state, and the city? For this monthly meeting, NYSIA assembles a team of experts on state, city, and federal IT procurement.

"Show and Tell" opportunity! Four companies only! At our government contracting meeting, we will give two minutes to five companies at the beginning. You get two minutes to tell the crowd: "why my company is a good vendor for the government".

Panelists: Profile: Georgia E. Ellis began her federal career in 1979 as Community Development Representative with the Department of Housing and Urban Development, she worked for eight years monitoring the City of New York, Community Development Block Grant Program. In 1987 she left HUD and went to the U.S. Department of Commerce, Minority Business Development Agency, where she worked as a Business Development Specialist monitoring five Minority Business Development Centers located in New York and New Jersey.

Ms. Ellis, in 1989 left MBDA to take on a new position with the U. S. Small Business Administration as a Business Opportunity Specialist under the 8(a) Minority Small Business & Capital Ownership Development Program. In 1993 Ms. Ellis was promoted to Assistant District Director for the Minority Enterprise Development Division at SBA. She is responsible for an 8(a) Business Development Portfolio of 239 certified firms and a staff of six professionals. Last year the 8(a) Program provided certified 8(a) firms with $55.4 million dollars in federal government contracting opportunities.

Ms. Ellis has a B.A. from Hunter College in Urban Affairs and a Masters Degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in City Planning with emphasis on Community and Economic Development.

Profile: Kael Goodman is the Deputy Commissioner, Information Technology for the NYC Department of Correction and the NYC Department of Probation. Mr. Goodman is leading an IT re-engineering initiative through process automation and enterprise integration that spans the two agencies. Prior to city service, Mr. Goodman was President of USMoving.com. Inc., a software company serving the moving and relocation industry that was acquired by Moveline, Inc., a subsidiary of Allied Van Lines. Mr. Goodman earned a Bachelor's Degree from Vassar College and an M.B.A. from UCLA.

Profile: Nick Noe is currently a Press Officer for the New York City Council Speaker, Gifford Miller. In his former role at the Council, Nick was a Legislative Policy Analyst in the Infrastructure Division. In that position, Nick served as an advisor to the Speaker, as well as the Chair of the Select Committee on Technology in Government, Councilmember Gale A. Brewer, on a wide range of technology and telecommunications issues.
