Chairman and Founder, Ed Meinert, has been doing a number of speaking engagements both in the area of HIPAA Compliance as well as our specialty, digital medical records technologies. Mr. Meinert is a specialist in medical information systems and application computer theory. He has a vast background in network and software engineering. He is a widely referenced computer scientist and speaker on next generation technologies, Digital Medical Record technology and HIPAA compliance both from a technical and non-technical perspective. He brings experience as Chairman and founder of MedAbiliti, along with specialized expertise in finance and the global markets and is currently reading for a Masters of Science in Software Engineering at the University of Oxford.

This presentation will discuss how prescriptive requirements (i.e. NFPA, API) and performance based standards (i.e. IEC 61508, IEC 61511 and ANSI/ISA S84.01) can be applied to the design of Burner Management Systems. It will provide an overview of the Safety Lifecycle and highlight fundamental concepts of Safety Instrumented Systems using a single burner natural gas fired boiler as a working example. The importance of Safety Integrity Level selection and its impact on logic solver requirements will be discussed in detail. Finally, an update on current trends, industry direction and standards / committee work on Burner Management Systems as related to Safety Instrumented Systems will be presented.
